Episode #18: Family Shenanigans In Branson
We have taken a couple of trips to Branson, one with my son Brad and his wife Nic and My Auntie Lanna. We took another one when we met my brother Danny and his wife Melissa and had a good trip each time we were there and made lots of memories.
In 2017 we drove to Missouri with Brad and Nichole to meet Lanna and do some serious zip lining while we were there. We found a place just off the highway a little north of Branson so we pulled in to see what the opportunities were at this outfitter. We found an option where they caravan us up the mountain and zip line down through a series of connecting stations and this sounded more fun than just a single long ride. I think there were 9 stations. Lanna is terribly afraid of heights and it took a lot of courage for her to strap on that body harness and trust it to get her safely to the next landing spot. I have zip lined on several occasions so while I was enjoying the scenery, I was really having a good time watching the others have fun.
At each station we landed, we would unhook from the zip line cable and would either immediately hook up and transition down the mountain or we take a short walk then cross a long rope plank bridge to the next connection. This also was hard on Lanna's psyche in a big way. I think the peer pressure she got from some 80 something year old gal doing this in our group was enough to give her some of the courage she needed.
We had a lot of fun as the trip was fairly fast paced and she was really enjoying it until we got to the last location. When we got to the last landing, we were still about 25' off the ground and the way down was to hook up on the last connection and step off the platform. It took her a while to get her mind right, but she did it and it was just so much fun!
The next trip we took there, we met Danny and Melissa there. They had been there a few times before but this was our first time to see any of the entertainment and shows there. We had a nice visit and a good time while we were there. Carol got an extra treat when we went to the Barry Williams show, after the intermission, he comes down from the high theatre ceiling on a wire cable with a Superman costume and lands right next to her seat. He looks down and says 'ya want to touch my cape?' she laughs and says 'you know I do Greg Brady'. It was a funny moment!
As you can imagine, Barry has written a book about his experiences with the Brady Bunch and we bought a copy and asked him to sign it for a souvenir.
We ate at some of the popular places there in town and the food was good and for a tourist venue, the prices were not as high as I had expected. The area was busy but not packed so we had a nice visit there.
We went to the Neil Diamond show, and while this was not Neil Diamond, this guy looked a lot like him and sounded exactly like him.
